Rhys Maengwyn Jones (1941 – September 19, 2001) was a Welsh-Australian archeologist. Jones was natural inside Wales, he received his PhD at Cambridge University specialising in the economic and technical interactions of Stone Age people. He arrived around Australia inside 1963 to take higher a teaching position at the University of Sydney, and moved in to the Australian National University in 1969 where he spent a rest of his career. He was an Honorary Prof of the University of Wales, Newport, and a Fellow of the University of Wales, Lampeter. For a single season, he was Australian Camping Professor at Harvard University.
Jones was a key figure around dating the arrival of Indigenous Australians, first using radiocarbon dating and later by owning luminescence techniques. & sir thomas more usually in the learn of the archaeology of Indigenous Australians.
A Australian Archeological Association awards a Rhys Jones Medal annually, these are a greatest award offered per Australian Archaeological Association.
